18A: Create A Customer Avatar

What kind of hobbies does your customer have?
I think that my ideal customer is engaged in your average high school hobbies. Probably lots of school based clubs, after school sports, or maybe even SAT tutoring. The idea here is to find students who do enough sports or activities to have a supple application for colleges.

What kind of car do they tend to drive?
I don't think that the type of car should really play any importance but having a car in high school is typically something that students getting ready to graduate have. Also students with smaller cars could potentially be more targetable given that space is tight in the vehicle and the prepackaged dorm supplies would save trunk space for any of their clothes.

What TV shows do they watch?
I think that if they were like me in high school I watched a lot of The Office, Parks and Rec, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, etc. This could potentially be a targeting point for my audience but kind of narrow for my segment of the market.

What are their favorite books?
Probably like Harry Potter, Twilight, maybe the Hunger Games? All of those teenage phenomenons.

Who are their favorite politicians?
This could be a generalization but democrats tend to spend more on things like decorations. Republicans are normally very conservative with their money while democrats tend to be more liberal.

How old are they? How old do they feel?
Ideally they are around 17-19 years of age but have a mental age of someone in their twenties. Our designs will tend to have a more mature and contemporary feeling to them, some of which younger mindsetted people won't understand or appreciate.

What do you have in common with the customer avatar?
I think that I have a lot in common with my customer. I am not far from that high school graduate point and can easily recall what runs through the mind of a pre-college student. I also believe that I had a very mature mindset during my high school days and have always been told I have an old soul, making me relavent to my current target customers but able to see further into future adaptations of the business and our designs.

  2. It was a very interesting point on your observation of more liberal spending by democrats than republicans; this definitely would give you a more targeted audience to find success in your sales. I do however disagree with the importance of the car, there is most likely a correlation between the type of car and the spending budget for people. I am sure that the person who drives a beat up Kia has a different budget than the student who drives a BMW coupe.

  3. I definitely understand the struggle you must have had to pin down just one type of high schooler to target with your service-- so many high schoolers go to college and they all need to decorate their dorms! Even so, I think it might help you to decide what kind of market you're going for-- are you targeting sorority girls with big budgets and the desire to deck out their room with all new, pretty decorations? Lower income students who want all the essentials at a low price? An average student who wants something in the middle? Ideally you would be able to target all of those, but I think it would be super beneficial for you to pick just one or two to start, especially for an assignment like this! That being said, you put a lot of thought into your post-- great job!

  4. I too found your comment on Democrats being more liberal with their spending habits interesting. How did you find that out? Also I would say it is important to remember that there is a growing population of people that choose neither party. I think Andre makes a good point when it comes to the cars. Someone who is driving a new sports car will not be looking for the same thing as someone who is driving an old Toyota.

Identifying Local Opportunities

Identifying Local Opportunities Problem #1 Electric scooters are on their way back to Miami. Only one commissioner is thrilled https://infoweb.newsbank.com/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&docref=news/16E6CAD12EE75EB8&f=basic What Happened... In Miami, the mayor has passed a bill allowing for the same scooters that infest UF to be street legal in Miami but the bill also allows for the scooters to be driven on the sidewalks. Miami had legalized scooters as a mood of transportation before but removed them from the streets due to high levels of accidents. As high levels of traffic congestion plague the city streets, the mayor believes this will be a slight relief to much of the build up of traffic and even help reduce the city's carbon emissions. The Problem... While allowing scooters may solve minor traffic relief, it has the potential to cause more harm than benefit. Scooter accidents are very common and could result in an increase in traffic injuries and fatalities. Al...

Elevator Pitch #2

I think that the introduction of my idea was superb and a feature of my last video, But what I think that my video lacked was a conclusion that elicited an investment. In this version of my video, I tried to be more dynamic in my voice and in my tone and be more persuasive about the business side of it, not just the idea. I presented more upon the ideas of my target audience and my ultimate goals with the help of more funding.

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Sketching out the Beginning of the Buyer Behavior Process 1)  Pick a segment.  For my testing I have decided to test the market segment of students here at the University of Florida. I feel that this segment best represents my ideal customer because they are my ideal customer. I feel that this segment will provide meaningful information that will enhance my ability to market and sell my service/product. 2) N eed awareness.  During my interviews I've sound and concluded that the need does exist. Every person that I talked with agreed with and could relate to the problem and the frustration picking out and shopping for all of their dorm supplies. Everyone that I talked with agreed that there was no popularized solution to this problem and that is a solution or brought about that made things easier yet preserved their ability to express themselves then they would happily purchase. 4)  Move to information search.  When interviewing my prospects, they...
