Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Sketching out the Beginning of the Buyer Behavior Process

1) Pick a segment.
For my testing I have decided to test the market segment of students here at the University of Florida. I feel that this segment best represents my ideal customer because they are my ideal customer. I feel that this segment will provide meaningful information that will enhance my ability to market and sell my service/product.
2) Need awareness.
During my interviews I've sound and concluded that the need does exist. Every person that I talked with agreed with and could relate to the problem and the frustration picking out and shopping for all of their dorm supplies. Everyone that I talked with agreed that there was no popularized solution to this problem and that is a solution or brought about that made things easier yet preserved their ability to express themselves then they would happily purchase.
4) Move to information search.
When interviewing my prospects, they all agreed when shopping for dorm supplies it would either spend hours browsing through different websites or different stores. They also provided me the insight about how they use Facebook and Instagram, two very important platforms in my business. They all stated that seeing other people use a service we're seeing it appear in the form of an ad on their feed heavily influenced their decision to both investigate the product or service and ultimately lead to a transaction.
5) Report the findings of your research.
I think that my interviews I confirmed a lot of my previous beliefs and proved that this problem does exist in the marketplace today, something that is reassuring as I pursue this business venture.
6) Draw conclusions.
In conclusion, I think that with the ideas I have in place, assuming everything is executed to my expectations, I will have solved a big problem in the market thus filling the gap. I also Believe that my research and personal experience will lead to a very successful and effective venture.

  1. I'm glad your interviews helped you to reaffirm your belief in your business. I think either the interviews or the summaries could have been a little more substantial-- I worry that you weren't able to get any new insights. I know that when I interview someone and I leave without learning anything new I feel a little disappointed, so I hope your next interviews can give you some juicy info! Either way, I'm excited to see how your business continues to evolve :)

  2. I absolutely think that University of Florida students would use this service. I may would get a little more specific about the segments. For example some of the sorority girls may actually like to shop for their dorm wear while some of the athletic individuals may find themselves too busy with practice and may enjoy a service like this. I think getting more specific would tell you who and where to advertise. For example if your key market was athletes at UF you may want to start advertising on game day. I think there is a great market for this I think it would benefit you to narrow down exactly what students are looking and then where they are looking.

  3. You have tapped into a very important segment. Your business would be the solution to a real pain for many; shopping for supplies is a real pain in the neck for most first-year students. Some ideas come to mind that could complement your main idea; the offering of delivery and setup process, and maybe joining forces with other startups (like the one from our classmate that is based on the recycling of textiles).
