Post 8: Solving the Crisis

Solving The Crisis

My solution to an informative fire alarm is modeled after a product called the Nest Protect. It's a google owned company, a really cool product that's been around for a while, but no one owns one! My solution is to make a variant of this device that is easy to install, affordable, and most importantly something that blends into the atmosphere of your home and isn't an eye sore.

The device will allow users to monitor everything going on in their home via their mobile phone, allow them to get the fire alerts whether they are home or away, use intelligent sensors to determine where the fire is coming from in the home and what type of situation it is (fire, smoke, steam) and even send you friendly alerts about low battery warning opposed to setting off a full alarm cycle over a couple batteries needing to be replaced.

One of the key parts of the business/ solution is the marketing campaign and the installation process. I want to make sure that people are made aware of the problems with the system they're been living with, the improvements that are available, and most importantly make it convenient and easy for people to upgrade their home's safety system.

  1. I think your idea is very creative. It is very smart that you are analyzing what went wrong in other similar products and how you will fix that in yours moving forward. I agree that marketing will be a vital part of the success of your invention. Due to the fact that there are similar products in the market your advertising initiative will need to set you invention apart. Overall I think you have a really great idea and I can't wait to hear more about your product.

  2. I also think that this is a really creative idea! The only thing that makes me a little nervous is that you mentioned there is already an existing product owned by Google-- that means the task ahead is going to involve going head to head against one of the biggest companies in the world. What is going to make consumers pick you over a Google backed company? I'm sure you have plenty of ideas but that is definitely going to have to be a big focus! That being said, I know I would definitely want to have one of these in my home, so I can already tell a market exists.

  3. Grace makes a great point in her comment. If google owns this product already, it will be very difficult to compete. I do think this is a smart idea and the need is there. I just worry that your product won't take off. If it were me, I would buy it from a more reputable and reliable brand such as google.

  4. I really like you are coming up with a creative solution. However, I'm not sure if I would use this. I personally don't know if I would use this on my mobile device. I think you could develop more options besides just a mobile platform with this. How would this work in schools vs in the homes? You may want to narrow down your focus audience. Are you putting this in homes on an individual level or contracting with school? Think of who would use this the most. I think it has a lot of potential if it was organized well.

Identifying Local Opportunities

Identifying Local Opportunities Problem #1 Electric scooters are on their way back to Miami. Only one commissioner is thrilled https://infoweb.newsbank.com/apps/news/document-view?p=WORLDNEWS&docref=news/16E6CAD12EE75EB8&f=basic What Happened... In Miami, the mayor has passed a bill allowing for the same scooters that infest UF to be street legal in Miami but the bill also allows for the scooters to be driven on the sidewalks. Miami had legalized scooters as a mood of transportation before but removed them from the streets due to high levels of accidents. As high levels of traffic congestion plague the city streets, the mayor believes this will be a slight relief to much of the build up of traffic and even help reduce the city's carbon emissions. The Problem... While allowing scooters may solve minor traffic relief, it has the potential to cause more harm than benefit. Scooter accidents are very common and could result in an increase in traffic injuries and fatalities. Al...

Elevator Pitch #2

I think that the introduction of my idea was superb and a feature of my last video, But what I think that my video lacked was a conclusion that elicited an investment. In this version of my video, I tried to be more dynamic in my voice and in my tone and be more persuasive about the business side of it, not just the idea. I presented more upon the ideas of my target audience and my ultimate goals with the help of more funding.

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior

Sketching out the Beginning of the Buyer Behavior Process 1)  Pick a segment.  For my testing I have decided to test the market segment of students here at the University of Florida. I feel that this segment best represents my ideal customer because they are my ideal customer. I feel that this segment will provide meaningful information that will enhance my ability to market and sell my service/product. 2) N eed awareness.  During my interviews I've sound and concluded that the need does exist. Every person that I talked with agreed with and could relate to the problem and the frustration picking out and shopping for all of their dorm supplies. Everyone that I talked with agreed that there was no popularized solution to this problem and that is a solution or brought about that made things easier yet preserved their ability to express themselves then they would happily purchase. 4)  Move to information search.  When interviewing my prospects, they...
