My Bug List
So, I've always considered myself to be a person with thick skin and relatively resistant/hard to annoy but this assignment may have only proved my ability to suppress these annoyances. Once I started looking for them, boy they just started filling those twenty slots up and honestly it feels great to just acknowledge some of these things! So without further hesitation here are twenty things that annoy the day light out of me...
- The frustration that follows when you try to plan things or communicate with people over text and they take to long to respond.
- Why? I think that my gripe with a lack of text response comes from a general annoyance with a lack of communication skills. I like for people to be easily reachable and be able to easily arrange plans or share ideas.
- When people act stuck up or entitled to a product, service or certain level of behavior.
- Why? I think this is literally the worst thing ever. No one on this earth should feel entitled to anything; a lack of appreciation for hard work is the root of this problem. Many people have no appreciation for the "grind time" or effort that goes behind something.
- People who lack the skill of execution and love to just talk about ideas instead of just taking actions.
- Why? I don't want to listen to your plans to make the next apple, literally just do it. We live in a country where opportunity is endless, stop talking about how you're going to do something and get going on making your dreams a reality.
- People who are hypercritical of their own advice or statements.
- Why? If you're going to preach it, you need to practice it or just don't be a preacher. Unless you are handing out advice on something that you actively practice, it might be best to just keep your advice to yourself.
- People who pass unwarranted and unwanted comments, judgement, and opinions on me.
- Why? I feel like people, especially college students, offer a lot of opinions or judgement that we could all go without. Like really, what good did complaining about the dining hall food tonight do? Just have a positive outlook on the world around you!
- People who can't hold appointments or remain punctual in their time concerning commitments.
- Why? I feel like this is just general human decency. If you tell someone you're going to be somewhere at a certain time, you need to hold yourself accountable for getting there! Maybe this is stemming from my need for people to keep their word or do what they say they are.
- Trying to coordinate dorm decorations with a limited budget and limited time.
- Why? This is the most time consuming, money pit of a project. Literally instead of studying I can spend hours looking at new prints or throw pillows and not find a single one that looks good. This right here might be an opportunity for a solid business.
- People hogging the gym equipment at the gym
- Why? You are one person, use one machine at a time. People treat the gym in a territorial fashion and reserve tons of equipment for their "Cross training workout" leaving little equipment for others at the facility.
- Exclusionary behavior found in cliques.
- Why? I feel like anyone who excludes people is just ridiculous. Everyone should be included, regardless of who they're friends with or what dorm they stay at or if they're in greek life (actually that is a really big gripe of mine here at UF).
- Women who flirt with men with no intent to pursue a relationship
- Why? It's a waste of my time and hers! I can't stand people who flirt around all the time, misleading people into thinking they are looking for a relationship but in the end were just fooling around. Come to think of it, It's really more about having clear expectations and having the communication skills to express your full intent or end goal of the relationship.
- People who talk as though they are experts on a topic but in reality are a complete novice
- Why? Come on, who wants to hear someone ramble on about a bunch of nonsense? It comes across as kind of ignorant and cocky. For example, don't talk about yourself as a professional mountain biker after buying an entry level mountain bike and jumping a curb on campus...
- Cocky or boastful people.
- Why? I guess this is kind of similar to number 11 but people who have self diluted concepts of their own image bother me. It's a lack of self awareness and lack of a genuine persona that just irks me!
- "Frat Bros" who carry themselves with an attitude appearing better than everyone else
- Why? Again, why do people think they are better than others? We all breathe the same air, walk on the same ground, and can communicate the same way. Does the divide come from a couple greek letters? It's not that I'm against greek life (despite the fact I've dissed it a couple of times in this post) but I am against the idea of letting greek life define who you are.
- The employees at the Subway in the Reitz union put no effort or care into making my sandwich (and they have the nerve to call themselves "sandwich artists")
- Why? Despite what your job is, you need to put your full effort into it! Even though you're just making sandwiches, effort or at least some care should be put into it.
- People who frequently overstep their boundaries and don't acknowledge their errors
- Why? Some people question things about you or share opinions on things that are outside their area of business or knowledge.
- Bureaucracy and the annoyingly rigid code of expectations and requirements
- Why? Remember when you went to the DMV with all the paperwork you needed but you left your passport at home? Yeah, this irritates the day light out of me. When I have three other forms of ID they really need to just look at my passport... I'm trying to drive in the US not a foreign nation.
- People who flex or brag about things that aren't really impressive at all.
- Why? Not everything you have to your name needs a facebook post announcing it. No one really cares about your new phone case or journal. I prefer when people stay humble as in my opinion it shows a sense of appreciation for both what you've "achieved" and the feelings of others.
- The lights are really bright inside libraries and it starts to hurt your eyes after sitting there for a few hours.
- Why? Because it hurts my eyes and kind of takes away from my ability to work.
- Classrooms and study spots that get really unexpectedly cold and you dressed for the heat of the Florida summer and you have to sit there shivering trying to get your homework done!
- Why? Again, it takes away from my ability to study! I just need a little blanket that doesn't take up my entire bag!
- People who frequently use cliches instead of having a single original thought...
- Why? I'm not so sure the lack of original thought is what annoys me as much as cliches in general annoy me.
I have to first say that I like the presentation of your Blog over all, it looks clean and easy to navigate and I acknowledge you for that. Regarding your bug list, I found that you are very passionate and descriptive on how you feel on behaviors that you encounter around you and that shows great observation skills. If I may, I would have liked to see more specific descriptions of certain situations that you describe from a conceptual perspective. Also, some of the bugs might be very closely related and perceived as repetitive due to the absence of details.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I find this post super relatable! Many of the observations listed in your post about general human behavior tend to irk me at times as well. I liked how you shared your opinions and that you also gave advice or a corrective action people could take. Versus pointing out something you dislike and not providing any solution. One thing I might change in though is how repetitive this list sounds at points in time. Towards the end there were a number of bugs that sounded quite similar.
